STUDIO WEST STUDENTS REACH FOR THE STARS WITH GCSE RESULTS

Updated: Nov 29, 2023

Students at Studio West, an academy and studio school operated by Northern Leaders Trust, (formerly Kenton Schools Academy Trust), have shown they really do have the ability to reach for the stars for their students.

The academy has also shown a strong improvement in the number of Grade 9’s achieved by students in English and Maths. Many students achieved between 12 and 14 GCSEs with the majority achieving between 10 and 12 qualifications.

Included within the results were some particularly noteworthy achievements:

Beth Baker has achieved 14 GCSE and equivalent qualifications ranging from grades 7-9 including 8 grade 9s. Beth will be studying A-levels in sixth form and is considering a career in medicine.

  • Jamie Clayton has achieved 13 GCSE and equivalent qualifications ranging from grades 6-9. Jamie is off to sixth form and is undecided about her future but has a real gift for writing.

  • Kane Allpress has achieved 12 GCSE and equivalent qualifications ranging from grades 5-7 and will be studying Business, Applied Science and History at sixth form.

  • Jason Hattam has achieved 11 GCSE and equivalent qualifications ranging from grades 5-7. Jason only joined Studio West in Year 10 and he worked hard to achieve this success.

  • Adam Lee has achieved 13 GCSE and equivalent qualifications ranging from grades 4-8 and is going on to study A-level Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

  • Thomas Levy has achieved 13 GCSE and equivalent qualifications ranging from grades 6-9 and will be studying A-levels in French, Chemistry and Biology.

  • Nuha Rizmi has achieved 13 GCSE and equivalent qualifications ranging from grades 5-9, achieving 7 grade 9s in total.

Val Wigham, principal of Studio West and passionate about the success of her students and their ability to make strong progress in life, said:

“These results reflect some incredibly hard work and dedication on behalf of both the students and staff. I am absolutely thrilled by how well they have all done. Now they have the qualifications necessary to proceed to the next stage in their careers.

“This year we are also re-opening our sixth form centre at Studio West, which is really exciting, after a gap of some three years. If those students who have already signed up get the required number of passes, then we should be almost full, so that is another cause for celebration.”

Ian Kershaw, CEO of Northern Leaders Trust, is delighted. He added: “Val and her team have done an amazing job to achieve such a fantastic set of results, and I would like to congratulate them on a job well done. They should be extremely proud.”

Studio West, in West Denton, is one of two schools operated by Northern Leaders Trust, a multi-academy trust, which has a growing reputation for improving schools through a combination of strong, visionary leadership, high quality teaching and learning and effective governance.
